Watchtowers were built at regular intervals along the Great Wall of China.
|
 |
The large brick and stone watchtowers that are found along the Great Wall of China housed weapons and troops and were frequently used to send smoke signals. Barracks and administrative centers were also placed along the wall. Communication between the troops in the watchtowers was very important for warning others of enemy movement and calling for reinforcements. Many of these towers were placed high on hills for visibility. |
