The Chien Men Watchtower, located in old Peking, in what is now Beijing, is one of the oldest structures in Tiananmen Square.

 |
Located in Beijing, the Chien Men Watchtower is situated in Tiananmen Square, the largest open air urban square in the world. The square has been the site for many of China's largest events, protests and historic events. The original tower was built in the 15th century to guard the Forbidden City. Today millions of Chinese and tourists pass through the square to pay their respects to Mao Tse Tung, whose embalmed body lies in a building in the square, or to enter the Forbidden City, which faces one side of Tianamen Square. |
