Two images from the Summer Palace in Beijing on an early postcard.

Beijing's Summer Palace was used by China's emperors as their summer residence. Construction of the 70,000 square meter complex began in the 18th century. The palace fell in disrepair during the early years of communism but was restored and is now on Unesco's World Heritage List.
Today the Summer Palace and its marble boat shown here are among Beijing's more popular tourist locations. |
