The Forbidden City in Peking (Beijing) was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is the world's largest palace complex with over 70 hectares. The palace's 9,999 buildings are surrounded by a moat and a ten meter high wall. Twenty four emperors reigned from this palace until 1924 when the last emperor was driven out. |
