In 1846, during the Qing Dynasty's Daoguang period (1821-1850), Astor House Hotel was established. Later called Richard's Hotel, this building was located in the Bund near Wangpoo River (presently called Huangpu River). In 1857, this hotel was shifted to Whales Bridge (called Garden Bridge at present). In 1907, the floor space of Astor House Hotel was increased as a structure built in England's new classical style was incorporated. After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, renovation works were carried out several times to improve the original Astor House Hotel.
Now, Astor House Hotel stands on the northern side of Garden Bridge and offers 130 rooms of various categories (which includes Deluxe rooms, Executive rooms and 4-bedded rooms) to the visitors. |
