Damascus, Syria's capital is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.

Founded in about 2,500 BCE, it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world with a current population of about 4.5 million.
Damascus boasts many historical sites including the Citadel of Damascus; the Grand Mosque of Damascus which is said to contain the Head of John the Baptist; and the "street called straight" (mentioned in the "Conversion of St. Paul" in Acts 9:11 of the Bible) also known as the Via Recta; and Bab Sharqi street.
