Daniar Mausoleum, located on the outskirts of Samarkand, is a much-visited sacred place for Christian, Islamic and Jewish pilgrims. It is believed that the crypt of this mausoleum contains the arm of prophet Daniel. Local legends tell that the warrior king Tamerlane brought this ancient relic to Samarkand after stealing it from Mecca. The extraordinary length of the crypt, more than 18 meters long, is explained by a curious legend. According to this legend, the arm bone grows larger, miraculously, with each passing year. |
