The city of Nablus is barely 40 miles north of Jerusalem. Nablus has religious import for all three Abrahamanic religions, though today it is predominantly Muslim.
The city name "Nablus" in Arabic apparently originates in the the word Neapolis or "new city" in Greek. This suggests a Greek origin to the city, one that dates back almost 2,000 years. Today Nablus is a center of Palestinian culture and economic life.
