The Tigris River served as an important transport route for Mosul. This river is navigable by shallow-draft till Baghdad. However, for carrying goods upstream to reach Mosul, rafts are required. During the 20th century, trade by this water route declined as the Basra-Baghdad-Mosul railway became a preferable choice for the transportation of goods. |
