Tanjung Bungah is a small town in Penang, Malaysia. It is situated in the northern part of Penang Island. It was struck by the tsunami in the Indian Ocean of December 26, 2004 that devasted the entire region and took the lives of 226, 566 people, and displaced and injured more than hundreds of thousands more.
One of Southeast Asia's most beautiful travel destinations, Penang is known for its fantastic beaches, and for having the best food in Asia. The closest beach to George Town is Tanjung Bungah beach. Other interesting attractions are Penang Bird Park, the Snake Temple (Kek Lok Si in Air Itam) the romantic peak of Penang Hill, Fort Cornwallis, and the Pantai Acheh Forest Reserve which features many beautiful trails leading to isolated beaches, rare flora, and native species including monkeys chattering in the trees, sea eagles and Hawksbill turtles.
