The first postal issue from Korea dates back to 1884. At the World Postal Congress held in Washington in 1897, the Korean Emperor got a direct representation as a postal authority. On January 1, 1900, after Korea got the membership of the UPU (Universal Postal Union), postal services improved and the sale of postage stamps grew. |
