Namgyeong was constructed during the Goryeo era, which later went on to become the capital of the Joseon dynasty. The history of Seoul tells that this city was encircled by a wall which had large gates positioned at the four compass points. At present, Namdaemun (South Gate) stands tall as the most distinctive structure that was once the main gate of the city during the Chosun Period (1392-1910). |
