Karbala is home to a large population of Shiahs. The influence of Arab-Islamic architecture can be seen in some of these buildings. The minarets, minbars and mihrabs of the shrines (like the mausoleum of Imam Hussein) and mosques (Karbala Mosque) also bear testimony to this kind of influence in one of the holiest cities of Shiite Islam . |
