Apart from the old city and bazaar in Damascus, many people also head to the old train station to see what the Hijaz Railway looked like in the past
The Hijaz Railway, running through Arabia's Hijaz region, was a narrow gauge railway. It acted as a conduit pipe between Damascus and Medina. The Hijaz Railway was a section of the network of Ottoman railways. The objective of this railway was to extend the already existing route between Istanbul and Damascus to the sacred city of Mecca. However, it finally managed to reach only till Medina as construction works of this railway were stalled due to the start of World War I.
