Bethlehem is known as the birthplace of Jesus of Nazareth
Its religious significance makes it a major destination for pilgrims and tourists from around the world. Like other Palestinian towns through the ages, these visitors support a thriving trade in handicrafts. Many shops that are located in the markets of Bethlehem sell olive woodcarvings, which are made from local olive groves and religious goods.
This real photo postcard was published by an American-based Christian organization early in the 20th century. |
