Ctesiphon was the winter capital of the Parthian Rulers. Later, it also served as the imperial capital of the Sasanian Empire. This place is famous for the Taq Kisra, the remnants of a huge vaulted hall made of baked brick, a typical example of the Sassanian architecture. The Taq Kisra was considered to be the palace of Khosrow I (531–579 A.D), the Sassanian king. This hall has among the largest ever brick arches of single-span in the world.
